Well today I decided to venture out and thought I'd start at the Champs Elysees. I met one of the Marriott employees (Malik) who drove me to the metro station and showed me how to get there and then offered to take me sightseeing on Monday on his day off. Of course I took him up on his offer.... I must say I got a little stuck in the metro with what the language barrier and all but I finally made my way :) -- I had to make one transfer so it was much easier on the return. There are hundreds of people riding the metro so it can be intimidating if you don't know the system.
In this little area I was able to see the Grand Palais Museum (de Bellas Artes) - The Dome of Invalides (you guys can read up on these if you want to - I will attach the pics). There were amazing views of the Eiffel Tower and then I made my way down Rue Champs Elysees. It is something akin Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles but very nice nonetheless. I had lunch at McDonald's because Joel said it was a nice one. What he failed to mention was there were hundreds of people in it and working it :)
I made my way up to the Arc de Triomphe and went to the top where the views of Paris were breathtaking!! Not sure if the pics will do my views justice. On my way down I asked a guy to take a picture of me and he spoke spanish which he loved that I spoke it too. They were two guys and the Mother of one of them who had just returned from a business trip in China. We got to chatting and the next thing they are inviting me to late lunch and telling me their stories about China (which were quite hysterical) and now tomorrow we are all taking a day trip to Versailles.
I must say I had a very enjoyable day today meeting new people and the sights were truly amazing.
