Bonjour mes amis!!
Today was a Fabulous day in Paris. The sun came up early and and made for a beautiful day all around. I decided I had to take advantage of the weather and make my way to the Basilique du Sacre-Cour. It is located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris in the Montmartre area. I have read that the Montmartre area is a little seedy and I must say some of it was, especially walking from the train station Gare du Nord to the Sacre-Coeur. It is known as the artsy, bohemian part of town and famed for the Cafe de Deux Molins which came out in the movie Amelie. While I loved the movie I did not make it to the Cafe. I guess I will have to go back and go see the Moulin Rouge as well.
Once I got to the basilica there were at least 2000 steps one has to climb to get to the top. I am not kidding either. I thought I was going to faint when I go to the top. I was amazed when I saw older people up there because it's a climb. The basilica is amazing to say the least! I don't think my pictures will do it justice. The views from the top are equally amazing. I spent almost 4 hours there and not sure how or why, but I did . I strolled around the area, they have many cafes, souvenir shops, etc.. Very touristy at any rate. Their is also a section with many artists waiting to paint, draw, pencil you. So I decided to get one done :) Somehow, I can't for the life of me, see the resemblance in the picture to me, but you be the judge.
When making my way back, there was this great singer on the steps of the basilica. I stopped and heard him for a while and he had quite the audience after a while.
Of course I also had to take a pic of the Eiffel Tower. You can see it from almost any point in the city.
I came home and had dinner (that's how I'm saving on money, it's expensive to eat out!) and then I took a stroll around the neighborhood. I stopped at a boulangerie and ordered sweet bread. So Parisian I can barely stand it!! :)
I love it here and my time is going so fast. I hope you enjoy the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur as much I did.
Avec L'amour de Paris!!
